Our commitment to diversity and inclusion in the workplace

At the FT, we aim for employees across all regions to have a voice so that diverse perspectives are heard and valued. We believe that a supportive workplace is one where employees feel they can be themselves at work and have the flexibility they need to meet their personal needs. We'll continue to remove barriers for all, and in particular barriers facing employees from underrepresented groups.

About The Team

The Edge Delivery & Observability team is responsible for services that provide shared logging, content delivery, and monitoring capabilities which are used by product teams across the organisation. A recent success has been the team’s migration to AWS Route53 for DNS and pushing the adoption of Infrastructure as Code for managing changes across the organisation.

To help the team scale effectively we work closely with vendors to provide some of these services, including both Fastly and Splunk. The team makes pragmatic decisions to buy or build services, as a result opportunities exist to fully own the technical stack of some of our shared services.

Our team resides within a broader department called Engineering Enablement. We have a DevOps culture of empowered teams who take full responsibility for their systems, "you build it, you run it'. Our department’s mission is to standardise, simplify and advise. We’re building a paved road for the FT's product teams so that they can deliver value quickly, securely and scalably.

Our technology

We use a range of technologies and vendors to deliver on our team’s vision. To give you a taste, we work closely with Fastly, Splunk and AWS, and work with several languages including Python and Node.js. Our continuous integration service is CircleCI and we keep all our code on GitHub.

About The Role

  • Using modern engineering practices including simple design, test automation, continuous delivery, defining infrastructure as code and service monitoring.
  • Responsible for the development of high quality software, from idea through to delivery into production.
  • Understand that operating services in production effectively is as important as building them.
  • Provide support to product teams at the FT, helping them use our shared services efficiently, safely, and cost effectively.

How We Work

We offer a strict 35 hour working week to all staff in our London office. Our hybrid setup means staff are expected to come into the office 2 days a week on average. We operate flexibly and thus this 2 day a week figure should be taken as a general ratio of the time you will spend in the office.

Our office is located across the street from St. Paul's Cathedral and is easily accessible from all corners of London. There are the main train terminals such as Liverpool Street, Moorgate, Blackfriars, City Thameslink or Waterloo all situated within walking distance or there are several tube stations within a few mins walk such as Mansion House (District or Circle line), St. Paul's (Central line), Bank (Central or Waterloo & City line) or Barbican (Central, Hammersmith & City or Metropolitan lines).
