We’re looking for a Engineering manager to help develop our engineering talent and build highly performant, inclusive and results driven teams. As a front-end Engineering Manager your focus will be leading people, where you will build engineers through coaching, mentoring, feedback, and career development. You’ll also be responsible for being the technical lead within one of our squads.
You'll be able use your knowledge of software engineering to support shaping of new projects and support the development of less experienced developers. You'll also have the opportunity to influence the culture, deliver technical solutions and drive technical initiatives in partnership with senior engineers, such as a testing, accessibility or performance.
What will you be doing?
- Support, coach and further develop a team of 4-6 engineers through regular 1:1s, feedback sessions and performance reviews
- Drive personal development of your reports including ownership of engineering growth and progression
- Leading an engineering squad to ensure a high-performing team that consistently and iteratively delivers high-impact, high-quality work
- Custodianship of the team - ensuring you're aware of all the work happening within the team, your roadmap, and your overall plan
- Accountable for delivery of all front-end work through your application - including the quality of the work underneath you
- Responsible for the quality of your application - understanding the test plan, what your coverage is like and how it can be improved
- You will support engineering and the recruiting team to lead the hiring, onboarding, and retention of diverse and talented software engineers.
Who are we looking for?
- You have experience managing the performance and development of 2-4 high-performing engineers, including seniors and tech leads
- You are knowledgeable and passionate about software development
- You have previously worked as a software engineer at a senior level
- You have solid experience working in an agile development environment
Essential Skills
- Expert JavaScript experience including asynchronous programming, pec closures, types, and ES6 etc.
- Commercial experience with React and Node.js
- Demonstrable experience with RESTful APIs and JSON
- Expert knowledge of how to utilise manual and automated testing
- Knowledge of building performance driven websites with an understanding of network traffic, HTTP requests and other performance focused enhancements
